Choosing your bed

A good night’s sleep is essential, as we spend about a third of our lives in bed. That’s why choosing the right bed is so important. We’re here to help you make the perfect choice, ensuring you find a bed that provides the comfort and support you need for restful, rejuvenating sleep. With our expertise and a wide range of options, we’ll guide you to the ideal bed that suits your unique preferences and sleep style.

Bedsizes

Generally speaking bigger is better, a larger bed will be more likely to ensure undisturbed sleep.  As a guide your mattress should be at least 10cm longer than the tallest partner. There should also be enough room for you both to lie with your arms under your head and elbows out without touching each other. We have single, double, king and super king sizes available (see our chart for sizes).

Remember to measure to ensure the bed will fit and you have enough space to move around your room.

Try it out

If you are not buying your mattress and bed together it is a good idea to try out a mattress that is on a similar type of base so you can judge its performance. As a mattress and base are designed to work together, some divans may require a certain style of mattress to gain the best support possible. Please talk to our specialists in our store.

Types of Mattress

Pocket Sprung

The springs are housed in individual fabric pockets, allowing them to work independently and provide excellent support. They respond individually to weight and pressure, contouring to your body for personalised comfort. This design also prevents you and your partner from rolling together into the middle of the bed, making it ideal for couples with different sizes.

Hybrid

Hybrid mattresses that combine pocket springs and gel-filled layers offer a highly effective balance of support, comfort, and temperature regulation. The pocket springs provide individual support by responding to your body’s unique shape and weight, minimising motion transfer and ensuring optimal spinal alignment. The gel-filled layers on top of the coils are designed to offer a cooling effect, absorbing and dissipating heat to maintain a comfortable sleep temperature throughout the night. This gel infusion helps prevent overheating, making these mattresses a great choice for hot sleepers. Together, the pocket springs and gel layers work in harmony to provide both support and pressure relief, while promoting airflow for a cooler and more restful sleep experience.

"Getting the right bed to give you correct support will allow you to have a good night's sleep and the correct back care can allow you to go about your day refreshed and free of pain". - Andy Burfitt Bed Specialist

"Making the correct decision on Mattress type and spring tension is wholly dependent on the users body mass and the type of back Issue, hence lying down and noting the posture and spine curvature from the side profile is crucial to correct selection." - Ian Miles Bed Specialist

Caring for your mattress

Give your mattress a good airing! Since everyone sweats in bed, it’s important to air it out regularly. Simply turn back the covers for a few hours each week to keep it fresh.
We offer a variety of mattress protectors to help care for your mattress and extend its lifespan. Our breathable and waterproof protectors provide a practical barrier, keeping your mattress clean and dry.
If you have a sprung mattress, regular turning may be necessary to prolong its life, so be sure to check the care instructions when you purchase.
